Panic in the Streets of London...or some other city

What a crazy weekend.

I went to Sandpoint for the car show on Saturday. Left my house at 6:30am, got back at 4:30, went to the store, and then started baking for the brunch on Sunday.

Then all hell broke loose. Shootings?! In my town?! They called them sniper shots, but the guy shot off, at last count, 125 rounds. He put 75 rounds into the county courthouse where the police dispatchers are housed, shot a university senior (who came out with his own gun to see what was going on), a cop, a sheriff's deputy, and a church sexton. He holed up in a church, shot it up, too, and killed himself. Three dead (himself, the sexton, and the cop), two injured (deputy and undergraduate student). The cop is the first cop in the city's 118 year history to be killed in the line of duty. They searched the guys house and found his wife dead as well. No clear motive, but a violent past with apparent suicidal tendencies. He told a shrink that he killing himself with an overdose isn't how he'd go out, he'd take people with him.

At one point on Sunday morning, we had over 50 law enforcement officers in town (Idaho and Washington and FBI). There's a weird vibe in town, like the whole place is in shock. It's the creepiest thing.

My former boss e-mailed me from his conference as "nice and safe in Toronto". Doesn't seem right.
