I tried to go to bed early. I could not fall asleep. The cat got fed up with the movement of my tossing and turning and finally jumped off the bed. Her self imposed exile only lasted a little while before she jumped back up, but instead of going to her bed, she came to curl up next to me. She laid down in the crook of my arm and then heard a noise, growled, and ran to the door to the patio, peering out into the darkness. She always does this, it was probably a car door or a bicyclist riding down the sidewalk. Usually she growls at anyone coming up the walk or walking too close to the property line or driving by the house so I didn't make much of it, at first. I had the thought of her crying wolf so many times with the mailman or whatever that perhaps one day she'll be right, that there will be a threat and what if I just dismiss it out of hand? What if, right now, there's someone snooping in the backyard waiting for a chance to find a way in and drain all my blood and...and...perhaps I shouldn't have watched that episode of Dexter right before going to bed.
