What do weather forecasters get paid to do? It was supposed to be dry and in the high 30s all week. Everything was sufficiently melted for me to wear my regular shoes home a few nights ago (thus leaving my boots at work) and overnight we get 3" of snow. Then the temperature drops dramatically and yesterday it was 8 degrees when I left for work. I think it's back in the 30s today.
Work has been incredibly hectic this week so I worked a little bit of overtime yesterday and came in early this morning. I think it's slowing down. One of the things I'm doing is fighting with the not-so-nice director of events at the hotel where we're having a work retreat next month. For the amount of money we're giving the hotel, one would think that they could hire pleasant employees. I told the faculty member in charge that I wanted a final count next week. He finally sent invitations out two days ago and is still inviting people. I think I may have to up the number of rooms for lodging and get a bigger room for the meetings. This is going to cost a fortune. The previous years, we've done it at the Coeur d'Alene Resort and they're always friendly and helpful and make my job a lot easier. However, for some reason, the food quality dropped dramatically last year so I was forced to change venues. Faculty are incapable of eating decent free food at a two-day retreat. I pushed for this hotel since it looks pretty plush. I didn't realize it would be such a headache. I knew I should have gone with the Red Lion at Post Falls -- it's a lot closer and they were very friendly. Oh well, I can survive this since it's my last year organizing it. It'll be someone else's headache next time.
I get Megan on Saturday while her parents go to dinner with a couple of other couples. Then we're all meeting at Megan's house for game night and to celebrate two birthdays (Stacey's husband and one of the girl's from Girl's Weekend). We're making key lime margaritas since that's the birthday girl's favorite drink (and I'll buy Jim Beam yellow label for him) so I have to go to the liquor store which is always intimidating to me. It's state-run so I imagine some Orwellian system if I pay with check or credit card. There's a new one open so I'll check that one out -- the other one I've been to is so seedy that I feel like I need a bath after stepping foot in there.
One more complaint: Will the New Year's Resolution-ers please quit? My gym is so crowded that yesterday morning I just drove by instead of going in. This morning was a little better -- I got the second to last treadmill at 5:00 and by 5:30 there was a line.

I hear you about the gym. I can't wait for February.
It's not that I want people to fail at their goals exactly, I just don't want to watch that new guy at the gym ride the Quad Mill like it's a toy anymore. You squat on that thing, mister -- for a couple of minutes, tops. You don't lock knees and read a magazine for a half hour, whipping your whole body around like you're standing on a mechanical bull. Dumbass.
