I got involved.
I just paid off one of my mother's debts. I made it a condition that she has to be honest about all of her finances and that I'd help her get out of her remaing debt by coming up with an expense plan. This may be a huge mistake, stripping away all vestiges of my sanity, but if it works, it'll be great.
