The retreat is this weekend and I did get the question if spouses could come. Umm, first of all, I've booked the rooms for single occupancy. Remember that e-mail I sent out a month ago asking all participants to let me know if there would be more than one person? Do ya, punk? Secondly, the agenda is for Saturday 8:30am-8:30pm with meetings over lunch and dinner. OK, they can come to the Friday night dinner and the Saturday night social after dinner. Yup, as soon as I send out that e-mail to everyone, I get the "kids, too?" Now, do you know about academia kids? They're weird. Call me old fashioned, but I don't think that goofy home-schooled seven-year-old children with nerdy parents should have assymetrical haircuts and rat tails.
