D is for Diamonds

Kind of a busy weekend. It wasn't supposed to be. I was supposed to clean my house from top to bottom Saturday morning, but ended up having Megan from 7:30 until 1:30. Stacey called me Friday night to say that she was meeting a friend at the vet the next morning and had to take Megan with her since her husband was going hunting and then working. I told her to drop Megan off with me and we'd go to Walmart and then meet up with her to go to the farmer's market. On the walk back from the market, her friend was walking a little ahead of us on a cell phone and Stacey and I each had one of Megan's hands walking down the street. We go to cross the street and a car turns up that block and is apparently upset that we are mosey-ing along at a two-year-old's pace so he decides to try to hurry us along by speeding up and slamming on his brakes. He ends up a foot into the crosswalk and a foot away from Marie. So Stacey asks him if we have a problem, he mentions something about her stopped and talking on the phone, she says we're all walking at a child's pace, etc. He was wearing a fireman's shirt and had the volunteer fire fighter placard above his plates so she decides she's going to call the fire station. As Marie finishes up her conversation (guiding Stacey's mom through a detour), she hands the phone to Stacey who has decided to call the police instead. She calls the police department, they have an officer call her back, and then tell her that they have located the vehicle, they know to whom it belongs, and they'll turn it over to the fire chief who has more clout with the guy.

Stacey's mom came to town and she and Megan came to my house while Stacey and Marie went back to the vet to check on Marie's dog. Then Megan's dad came by and he and his mother-in-law went to run an errand and I kept Megan until Stacey was finished at the vet. Phew.

On Sunday, Stacey and the other girl's weekend attendee came to my house for a pre-trip planning session (19 days) and then the other woman had an emergency at work (the vet clinic) and had to leave. She said she may be back. Stacey and Megan hung out with me until it was obvious that she wasn't going to make it back to my house. They left at about 12:30. And my house is still not nearly as clean as I would like it to be. I did get the dusting and vacuuming done, but I was hoping to clean the carpets as well.

On Sunday, Megan's pants and car seat were soaked so I threw them in the wash. When they left my house, Stacey realized that the diamond was out of her wedding ring. Since she had struggled with the car seat cover, when she got home, she looked for the diamond and actually found it in the crevice of the back seat. How lucky. I'm very surprised that it took this long to fall out, with her very active lifestyle.

In other diamond news...yay newly engaged Seattle couple -- as long as they're not in Vegas right now! I, on a whim, read Christy's blog last night. I think I scared the crap out of the cat when I yelled, "What?!" Congratulations!
