K is for Kids

I went to rent out an apartment in the Valley last Wednesday and the kid didn't show up. I called my machine to see if he called. Nope. I called his cell phone, his grandmother, with whom he's living, and his parents, who are paying for the apartment. Cell phone went straight to voicemail so I left a message saying I was waiting, the hard-of-hearing grandparent didn't know where he was, and his mother was at class, but his little sister told me that he was going to call me to say he'd be late, but that's all she knew. I was fuming all the way home. Wasted 2 1/2 hours of my time after a very long day at work. When I got home, his mother had left a message saying that she was sorry, but he did try to call, he just didn't leave a message. Umm, how does that make it OK? Then he calls my cell phone. At 8:55pm. Umm, no. He obviously knew that I was no longer down there. I told him that I was tired, I had extended a long day by 2 1/2 hours to meet him and to call the business line. He gave me the song and dance of "wanting to apologize in person and not on a machine...blah, blah, blah...his car broke down and his cell phone went dead." Yeah, so instead of getting in touch with the person you're meeting, you call your mother? But he tried. Umm, by calling a number and not leaving a message? Hmm, don't knock yourself out there. OK, we'll try again, but you're coming to me. Friday. 5:15. He calls Thursday to say he's working at 5:00. I tell him Saturday, but not between 12-3:00. He suggests 12:15. OK, 11:45. I had Megan, I bundle her in the car seat, drive over to the rendezvous site, and he's 20 minutes late. Thanks. Rush home to feed her lunch and put her down for her nap. Thank God it's my dad's place and not one I manage. I wash my hands of him.

I made these plans , airfare, rental car, hotel, to go see Clementine and I found out Friday that she moved her schedule around. She had classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays and one on Monday afternoon and Friday morning. So, we decided I'd go down on a Thursday and leave after breakfast on the Monday. That way we'd have Thursday afternoon, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday together. She now works until 6:00 on Thursday and she has classes until 3:00 on Friday. Sheesh. I told her it was up to her to find something for me to do while she's in class. She suggested a massage. Ahh, good one. I'll get a massage and then head over to Fatburger. That will be a good day. Now if only I knew what to do in the morning and later afternoon.
