A few months ago (maybe a year?), I contacted a former friend from high school. We e-mailed a couple of times (me, her, me, her, me) and then nothing. She had mentioned in the last e-mail that her grandmother had died so she was dealing with that. I just got another e-mail from her (not very literate, but more so then her previous e-mails):

"I want to let everyone know that the cancer is remission. I'm going to LA next week to see if we stop their or go with one more treament or not and a transplant is needed. Please keep me in your prays thank you. Thank you for your support."

I had no idea about anything so I sent her an e-mail asking her to explain herself. She's a year older than I and has two kids, 15 and I think about 12.
