I went to Portland this weekend for the auto swap meet. We got to Portland at about 10:30 on Friday morning, a bit earlier than planned. Couldn't check in to the hotel so went to lunch, couldn't check in to the hotel so we went to the mall and walked around, finally could check in to the hotel and it was only 2:00. We went to a movie and then back to the hotel.
The swap meet was pretty large. It's at the Exposition center (in the exhibit halls and outside on either side) and apparently someone decided a few years ago to start another one at the raceway. We parked at the raceway and caught a shuttle bus to the Expo, walked around for three hours, caught the shuttle back to the raceway, walked around, and then hobbled back to the truck. Grabbed some lunch and when we got back to the hotel it was noon. Decided to see another movie. Bored around the hotel, then to dinner, then to the hotel. Neither of us really wanted to walk anywhere. The five blocks to the movie was enough. As we were coming back from the movie, I mentioned that if we had left Portland after the swap meet, we'd've been home in another hour.
Neither of us got much sleep. We were in a hotel across from the light rail and in between two very busy streets. I don't know why people need the light rail at 4:30 on weekend mornings, but between those every 15 minutes throughout the night and the cars in the intersections bumping over the rails, it was very loud. We were both very happy to leave.
On the way home, we made a detour through the waterfall areas off of I-84, stopping at the Multnomah Falls. We walked a little ways up and, of course, it started to pour down rain and I left my hat in the car. But it was very beautiful and good to walk a little to stretch out from the day before.
Movie review:
Leatherheads -- mediocre. Not horrible, but could've been better and shorter. A lot better then hanging around the hotel and the theatre was nice.
21 -- mediocre. A little twist at the end. A lot better then hanging around the hotel and the theatre was nice.
I would say matinees would be the time to see them, but matinees in Portland are the same price as evening shows on the Palouse.
