I read an article on the differences between conservative and liberal patriotism.

Generally, conservative patriotism is said to be rooted in the past. Love America for the sacrifices of those before us who made it what it (usually sugar-coated) is. Unicorns pooped sunshine in the old days. And America is made by immigrants, as long as they assimilate.

Liberal patriotism is said to stem from dissent. America is what it is and we can make it better. Unicorns were murdered by The Man in the old -- and new-- days. And America is made by immigrants, the cultures they bring add to our "American-ness."

Both are completely valid forms of patriotism, but no matter your patriotic (or political) beliefs, do not call another citizen unpatriotic. The act of doing so is, well, unpatriotic.

Also, don't confuse patriotism with nationalism. Just because you love America (even if it's just because you don't know anything else), that doesn't mean that you should disparage other countries.

Welcome to Earth.

Happy Independence Day.
